TOURIST ACTIVITIES IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE

Walk around the city streets and admire the colonial architecture of each beautiful building. You’ll understand why San Miguel de Allende is considered to be one of most beautiful cities in Mexico.

Visit the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcangel, a symbol in the city, built by the end of the XVII century. Don’t miss the details of its neo-gothic style façade, designed by the master Ceferino Gutierrez.

Visit the handicrafts market and, on Lucas Balderas, purchase one (or many) of the typical crafts made out of d natural brass.

If you’re interested in history, you can’t miss the former city palace, built in 1736. In its staircase you’ll see the figures of Miguel Hidalgo and Ignacio Allende. This is the place where the first independent Mexico’s city hall was settled in 1810.

Visit the Casa de Allende. Beautiful neoclassic building designed in the XVIII century, this construction holds an interesting collection of pieces from the independence era, arranged in the rooms where Ignacio Allende y Unzaga was born.

Taste the best national and international cuisine in traditional restaurants, located mainly in the central plaza. Among the most popular ones we can mention: the Fonda San Miguel, Casa Allende, Los Milagros, Mamma Mia, and more.

Taste delicious churros and a hot cocoa drink in the traditional restaurant San Agustin, property of the famous mexican actress Margarita Gralia, located in an old mansion from the XVIII century, a few steps away from the San Francisco Church.

On June you can’t miss the Desfile de los Locos (Crazy’s Parade), an original event that each year gets more popular. During this celebration, which takes place the Sunday after the day of San Antonio, the participants wear costumes and give candies to the public.

If you like botanic, in northeast downtown San Miguel km 2.5, near the old dam, is the El Charco del Ingenio Botanic Garden. This reserve of about 67 hectares exhibits approximately 1,300 species of cactaceaes that you cannot miss!

On September, dare to experience the Independence Day celebration. The Noche del Grito (Night of the Shout) is always accompanied by mariachi music, fireworks and numerous stands where you’ll find all kind of typical snacks, candies and drinks.
